Steelcase Series 2 Task Chair
If you're in search of an affordably priced chair that offers ergonomic design and comfort, your quest ends with the Steelcase Series 2 Chair. This chair delivers personalized comfort without straining your budget, setting it apart from many other options. In this blog post, we'll delve into the characteristics and advantages of the Steelcase Series 2 Chair to assist you in determining whether it aligns with your preferences.
Steelcase Series 2 Pricing and Availability:
The Steelcase Series 2 comes in a variety of configurations and price points available in the US, UK, and Australia, with each region offering a distinct set of choices. In the US, prices start at $463, but can almost double to $914 when adding optional features like armrests, a headrest, lumbar support, hard-floor wheels, a 3-D Micro knit back, and the extended stool configuration. For the UK, Steelcase doesn't currently have a direct-to-consumer model, so pricing will vary depending on the retailer offering the Series 2. Generally, you can expect to pay between £450 and £800, depending on your chosen configuration and where you make your purchase.
Design and Quality:
The Series 2 exudes a stylish and unobtrusive appearance that borders on timeless, with a slightly contemporary touch added by its curvaceous backrest design and the geometric Micro knit backing. It's available worldwide in black, and, depending on the region, various subtle pastel tones and colors. The chair's appearance may naturally vary depending on the specific options selected, with the extended stool configuration being the most distinctive. In our evaluation configuration, it boasts a compact and minimalist look, taking up significantly less space in all dimensions compared to many other chairs in its category. The overall build quality feels impressively sturdy, primarily composed of steel and durable plastic for its structural components. While there's a slight amount of flex between the base and seat when rocking the chair back and forth, it doesn't compromise our confidence in its durability.
Some of the plastic trim below the seat wobbles a little, however that is simply a cover to hide the ‘armless’ factor of this configuration and isn’t fundamental to the chair’s stability. The curving singular frame that encompasses and helps the again feels particularly strong and we, again, haven’t any doubt of its reliability.
Comfort:
When it comes to an ergonomic chair, comfort is a paramount expectation, and the Series 2 manages to meet this requirement quite effectively for the most part. Its combination of adjustments and practical material choices make it well-suited for extended periods of sitting. Additionally, options such as armrests and headrests further enhance comfort. For those in warmer climates, like during our review in Australia, the breathable mesh on the back is a game-changer. Compared to the typical leather found on gaming chairs and some office chairs, or even solid fabric backings, this breathable mesh significantly reduces back sweat, allowing for more extended and comfortable seating.
Breathability is not the sole role of the mesh—it's part of Steelcase's Live Back technology, which combines a fabric mesh with 3D Micro knit plastic support behind it. This technology flexes organically to accommodate the user's spine, striking a perfect balance between firm support and gentle cushioning. It provides just enough flexibility to conform to your back while maintaining proper upright posture. In the end, we discovered that the back support came as close to feeling "invisible" as possible, which is a definite advantage during extended periods of sitting.
